R U OK Day aims to raise awareness about depression and suicide by encouraging everyone to ask their friends and family “R U OK?”.
Just this simple act can help people to realise that they are not alone and there are many others going through similar issues. Most importantly, it reminds us that it is okay to talk about it. By discussing these issues, we hope that the rate of depression and suicide is reduced and we are able to build a community that supports each other through the hard times.
Pacific Training Group on the Gold Coast decided to host a free BBQ for all students to not only encourage conversation about these topics, but to strengthen the social connection between our International Students.
This was a very meaningful end to the term and we now go forth with our pledge to recognise the signs that someone needs to help and to ask them – R U OK?
